The eponymous Souleyman is a food delivery courier cycling through the streets of Paris, so that he can survive until he is granted asylum. Director Boris Lodjkine captures his breathless efforts, successfully conveys how his labour is exploited and how the level of his anxiety increases as his final interview approaches through handheld camera. Abou Sangare, who won the Best Actor Award of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, is also an immigrant who works as a mechanic in Amiens. His own naturalization demand was refused right before Cannes Film Festival.
