After Thanksgiving 1973, the Hood family loses control. Benjamin Hood is trying to relax and forget his troubles at work as he keeps going back and forth from bottle to bottle. While his wife, Elena, is looking for relief in personal development books, she is fed up with her husband's constant lies. The couple's son Paul, during his holiday home from prep school, ran away to the city in pursuit of a very rich girl. And finally, their young, budding daughter, Wendy Hood, wanders the neighborhood, innocently searching through her friends' parents' liquor cabinets and underwear drawers. The balance of these chaotic family relationships will be shaken by the arrival of the worst ice storm of the century.
