• Love, Deutschmarks and Death

  • Cem Kaya

    1h 38m - DE

  • The film uncovers a forgotten subculture, that of the music made by the Turkish “guest workers” who came to Germany from the early 1960s onwards. The immigrants were accompanied by their music, a big part of their indentity - a part of home in a foreign country. The documentary tells the story of the independent and largely unknown music of immigrants from Turkey and their descendants in Germany, in a very lively way, full of rhythm. The director Cem Kaya, using the form of a documentary essay, takes his viewers into a dazzling universe of musical diversity providing a cinematic experience of the highest sound quality. The film premiered at Berlinale as part of Panorama programme.
